Nutrient Overloading of Lake Winnipeg

Remember, don't just think of Lake Winnipeg. It is all the other lakes in
the watershed draining into Lake Winnipeg to make the problem. This is not
just Winnipeg or the Red River. That is less than 30% of the flow into the
lake (much less). This means, that all lakes have some level of problem, or
Lake Winnipeg would not have the issue. The other lakes will get worse if we
do not accept Lake Winnipeg as our reference and indicator. The satellite
images prove that.

No other lake is immune, and the blue-green algae is now in the Whiteshell
(Falcon Lake) and has been seen on Lake Manitoba. I am sure there are
others.

Too many people feel like they need their lake examined like Lake Winnipeg.
Lake Winnipeg is easier because of size, and the concentration. These
scientists know what they are doing and they are learning where the problems
are coming from. We all need to be equally interested in the results of the
LWRC studies if we are to make a difference in our own lakes and streams.

On another note, the attachment is a copy of our petition. Be sure to get at
least a few signatures before coming to the AGM. We will accept them any
time though.

See you at the AGM! (or sooner) and please pass this on to as many people as
may be interested.

Thanks,

Dave Crabb
