Minutes of Meeting

1. Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 6:40 P M

2. Adoption of Agenda
Moved by Dave Crabb, seconded by Shirley Nixon that the agenda is adopted as presented with the following additions: New Business e) Michael DiCanio

Motion Carried

3. Adoption of Minutes of Previous Meeting of November 18th, 2003
Moved by Lorraine Neal, seconded by Pat Dunlop that the minutes should state it was Pat Dunlop, not Shirley Nixon who was to go the public Library re: Canadian Subsidy Directory.
Motion Carried.

4. Financial Report
Bill Russell reported a balance of $1801.45 November 17th 2003
Income for the intervening period was $324.50
Expenses were                                         160.79
Total in bank January 20, 2004             1965.16
Bill moved the acceptance of his report, seconded by Dave Crabb
Motion carried

5. Correspondence sent
None reported, Lorraine working on a letter to Minister Bjornson.

6. Correspondence received
a) Stewardship in Action
Doug reported on the letter from Living by Water with information on the Stewardship in Action Program.  Doug to follow up.

7.Old Business
a) Grant request from Oceans and fisheries as partnered with Living by Water
Reported on in 6. A)

8.      New Business
a) Education - letter to Education Minister Peter Bjornson
Letter begun to minister requesting a meeting as soon as possible

b) Invitation to Minister Steve Ashton - Water Stewardship
Lorraine to write letter requesting his attendance at AGM 2004.

c) Report on special meetings  with Dwight Williamson and Tim Ness
We need to keep meeting with both men.  Members to e-mail questions to Doug re either Dwight's or Tim's jurisdictions.  This should speed up the meetings and ensure answers.

d) Article for Cottager magazine Spring 2004
Lorraine reported on the MACO article sent January 20, 2004 for inclusion in the Cottager magazine.

e) Advertising included in next (early) newsletter re: Roo n Shade
Shirley brought information from Michael Di Canio regarding a possible ad to be included in our next newsletter.

f) Marine Safety Branch
Shirley reported on a course being sponsored by the Marine Safety Branch.  It will take place in Gimli and the Lakeview Hotel on March 16th, and 17th.  There is no registration charge but all must pay their own hotel and expenses.  Craig Miller in charge, telephone 1 - 204 - 984-0397.

9. Directors Reports
Jim Neufeld
Jim reported that Conservation (Parks) are providing fire fighting equipment at Clearwater Lake.  It has already be done at Rocky Lake.

Lorraine Neal
Still trying to obtain information regarding the possibility of bears being crushed by logging equipment.

Dave Crabb
       Dave reported on his contact with Dr. Tim Hilderman, Medical Officer of Health for the Interlake Regional Health Authority.  Dr. Hilderman is willing to make a presentation to us on water borne diseases at our February 17th meeting.  Dr. Hilderman has the power to close beaches, schools, public places if water is suspect.

Pat Dunlop
Pat reported on the receipt of the 2004 Canadian Subsidies Directory.  She will find out if it's available at the library.  She also reported that the R. M. of Coldwell is being much more co-operative.

Bill Russell
Bill reported on meeting attendance with other cottage associations in the Lac du Bonnet area with the North Eastman Health Association regarding the possible location for the planned new hospital on the east side of NEHA.

Shirley Nixon
Shirley presented a letter from Little Athapap Cottage Owners Association regarding their requests to government to reduce speed on a section of Highway adjacent to their development.
Shirley also spoke about the Cottage and Camping Show, it's scheduled for the 26th and 27th of February.  Pat and Gary Dunlop will take over arranging volunteers for the Cottage Show.  Shirley will assist.
