There was discussion about the high cost of the AGM in October. Before Seminar arrangements are finalized the costs of it should be investigated. 5.Correspondence Sent ? Dave Crabb continues to send emails, keeping people in touch. ? Written support of Auglen Park was sent to RM of Alexander , and the Winnipeg River Development Board; Dave Crabb & Rene Comeault attended the Auglen Park meeting held in December, but were unhappy with response to their questions by the Conservation rep. The maps hung at the meeting were different than previously; water issues were not emphasized e.g. all wells have been capped by the RM because of radon etc. in the ground: there is no water. People bidding on these lots should be advised. Also, the access road at the front is not going to be built instead, there will be a lane built for the new cottagers, running through the old cottagers' lots. 6.Correspondence Received Marion Jones of Auglen Park wondered if we would care to have Gail from MB. Wildlands as a guest speaker at a MACO meeting. Jim Neufeld suggested she would be good on the subject of wildlife. It was decided that this should be arranged for after the Seminar by Dave Crabb. ? Dave Crabb read an email from Robert (Bob) Dakin, Retired Forest Fire Fighter, enquiring about smoke detectors, and wanting a contact for planned burns of marshes. We suggested contacting his local Conservation Office and getting in touch with Gordon Goldsborough at the University of Manitoba. 7.Old Business a) Approval of AGM Minutes was put over to next meeting as they have not yet been received. b) Workshop Seminar Planning: As per notes under Financial Report, an effort should be made to reduce expenses. Dave Crabb is to look into using a board room at Conservation on Saulteaux - to contact Gordon Jones there. We should look into getting a Sponsor such as MB Hydro. Speaker, Dr. Dennis Lawson: Tim Ness has advised they will pay half the cost: ½ of $375. = $190. Bill Russell moved that we negotiate with Dr. Lawson on whether or not to pay ¼ of the cost, as he also benefits. Our cost would then be aprox. $85. Jim Neufeld Seconded the Motion. Carried. Gus Wruck would put together a Newsletter with some of Dr. Lawson's slides, with an ad from a possible Sponsor on the back page. The COTTAGER will put an ad in for the Seminar at no cost to MACO. Jim Neufeld proposed the cost of the Seminar Registration to be $25. each. MACO will underwrite any additional expenses in lieu of no sponsor. Bill Russell seconded the motion. Carried. All Reeves should be advised of the Seminar - perhaps Pat Dunlop has done this? c) MACO Website: The President's Message, etc. will be added, as well as a Newsletter. Email on the Website should be carried over and discussed at the next meeting. Gus Wruck suggested he would do a map of Manitoba, showing where Members are located. Bill Russell reported that Stan has not yet submitted his invoice. d) Sustainable Development Initiative Fund Proposal - Dave Crabb is still working on it. e) Cheque for $5,000.00 - not spent yet. f) School Taxes - Gus Wruck contacted Keystone without response. He will try again. 8.New Business (a) Shirley Nixon reported on the following: (1) Pelican Lake: the weir or gate is silted and fish are dying. There is one aerator there now, and Oceans & Fisheries have agreed to clean out the fish ladder this winter. Many cottagers and American tourists fish here. There are now farrow to finish barns nearby which could be part of the problem. The Pelican Lake people would like to do a presentation to MACO. Their Cottage Association dues are not paid. Joe Younge had phoned and they felt they weren't getting anything for their money any more. However, nothing can be done now til their annual meeting in June. It is recommended that Darryl Hyslop send them his special letter. Dave Crabb has been sending emails. He will now send an email to their President and Secretary re their concerns. The contact is Janet Fowler - 474 0323. (2) One Ton Challenge - Shirley suggested MACO ask for an Environmental Pamphlet (put out by Hydro and the Government) well in advance and hand them out at the Seminar and the AGM. (b) Coalition activities & Developments in Provincial Park Cottaging: Jim Neufeld Reported that all the current activity on this subject could shake up the present fee system! There is currently a lawsuit by the Whiteshell Cottage Owners over road charges. News will be released when firm details are known. An 'Alert' letter in this regard is attached. Jim will advise Dave Crabb of progress. 9.Directors' Reports Bill Russell Reported that the Septic Truck Dumping Station is being removed from Nopiming Provincial Park. It has also been removed from Van Guren and Beresford Lake. Bill will advise Dave Crabb of a contact to enquire about this. Bill will require Pat Dunlop to pick up the mail while he is out of town. Gus Wruck is working on the Newsletter, but is busy just now with his local Snowmobile Club. Jim Neufeld - no report. Donna Jean Crabb Reported on the gang-related guns that had been seized in Grand Beach by the RCMP. Also, 9 cottages had been broken into at Victoria Beach recently: no malicious damage - mostly electronic equipment stolen. RCMP found a van with a lot of the stolen goods. At Sunset Beach a cottage burned to the ground - 1 man died in the fire There are only 2 ice fishing huts around Balsam Bay this year. Dave Crabb - no report. Joe Younge Reported there are many ice huts. His friend from Brandon is hopefully starting an association at Thomas Lake.
