Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 6:20 p.m. 2.Adoption of Agenda Rene Comeault moved adoption of the Agenda. Seconded by Donna Jean Crabb. Carried. 3.Guest Presentation - George Harbottle gave a presentation reflecting the inequities of the Manitoba system of assessing school tax on property as well as other problems created for municipalities relating to seasonal properties. Copy of presentation attached. A copy of the By-law relating to ATV's was provided to Dave Crabb for future reference/discussion. 4.Adoption of the Minutes of the meetings of November 2006 Pat Dunlop moved adoption of the Minutes of November 21st, 2006 with spelling correction. Seconded by Bill Russell. Carried. 5. Financial Report - Gary Dunlop advised that it will be necessary to move the bank account to Winnipeg. Jim Neufeld moved that the account from the South Interlake Credit Union to the Assiniboine Credit Union. Seconded by Gus Wruck. Carried. Gary Dunlop moved adoption of the financial report as presented. Seconded by Bill Russell. Carried 4. Correspondence Sent All correspondence sent was in response to the correspondence received. 6. Correspondence Received • Wallace Lake Cottage Association asking for information on cottage inclusion in disaster relief. Response that this would be brought up with George Harbottle at the meeting. Rick and Barb Storie from Wallace Lake Cottage Association attended the meeting. • Connie Oliver regarding February 1st deadline for article for The Cottager. • George Harbottle - information and arrangements for tonight's meeting. • Grindstone - information regarding tonight's meeting. • Stan Malec regarding information from George Harbottle. 7.Old Business a) Email from Salin Guttormson - Carry forward. b) Website - Story of MACO - Donna Jean Crabb to type up Shirley's brief history. Dave to ask Shirley for more detailed information for archieves. c) Water Stewardship Fund - No response. Dave Crabb to provide Jim Neufeld with name for follow up with Gordon Jones. d) Cheque for $5,000 - December email received had circulated had provided a reporting. e) School Taxes-Gus Wruck to contact Taxpayer Federation with an invitation to attend a meeting. f) AGM • LWRC - Dave Crabb reported that Gus Wruck attended the meeting where draft by-laws were presented. Classes of membership was the main topic. The meeting was not adjourned because they are awaiting comments. Mostly board members attended the meeting. Disappointed that more did not attend. Province - $100,000/year City of Winnipeg - $50,000/year Fisheries & Oceans - Contribution of Al Kristofferson's salary There are two scientists assigned to work full-time on Lake Winnipeg and Lake Erie. A charitable tax number has been applied for. It costs $8,000/day to run the Namao on the lake. Mo Tipples provided a copy of a poster and an article from The Cottager. It was suggested that the Newsletter include a picture of the Namao and that the Newsletter be sent to delivery volunteers. A letter is not needed at this time. 7. New Business Mo Tipples' article for the Newsletter was discussed. 8. Directors' Reports Dave Crabb - Lots of half-ton trucks loaded with summer fishing equipment. Dave thanked everyone for their hard work. Rene Comeault - Letter from Lester Beach regarding membership. Rene plans to set up a map to indicate where cottage associations are located. Donna Jean Crabb - No report Gary Dunlop - They are ice fishing on the lake. Some cottages have been rented to movie makers. Pat Dunlop - Advised that Shirley would like to wait until January or February to go out for dinner. Pat will follow-up with Shirley. Bill Russell - Bill confirms that snow clearing is done within 24 hours as per George Harbottle's comments during the presentation. Poor ice conditions. Grooming now being done. Few neighbours around. Bill advised of incident at his home where a lady showed up at the door about 1:30 am. Gus Wruck - Provided information on Community Foundations. Some have funded Lake Winnipeg Research Consortium. This should be encouraged. Advised that his schedule has been very busy since he retired. Jim Neufeld - Commented on Community Foundations history. Clearwater Lake Cottage Association - no report. There is a rumor that the province has committed with the aboriginal group to fund some overdue roads. A contract has been given to Deloitte & Touche partnered with Ruth Marr Consulting regarding service fees. - To hold an open house. A letter is to go to all cottagers in Parks in mid-January regarding dates of consultations. The consultations will take longer than expected - until about March 1. Pat Dunlop - Advised of the new perpetual stamp. To send Gus the list of those who volunteered to work on taxes. Dave Crabb - Advised that there had been a movie shooting in the fall. Ice is in good shape but only about 12 inches deep. 10.Date of Next Meeting - March 20, 2007 11.Meeting Adjourned Gary Dunlop moved the meeting be adjourned. |
