Box 281, Station Main, Winnipeg, R3G 2G9 Minutes of Meeting Date: Tuesday March 15, 2005 Time 6:00 PM Location: Garden City CanadInn, 2100 McPhillips Street, Winnipeg Present: Dave Crabb, Doug Neal, Pat Dunlop, Gary Dunlop, Jim Neufeld, Bill Russell, Lindy Clubb, Shirley Nixon, Lorraine Neal Regrets: Rene Comeault, Daryll Hyslop, Joe Younge 1. Call to Order President Neal called the meeting to order at 6:25 PM 2. Adoption of Agenda Moved by Jim Neufeld, seconded by Lorraine Neal that the agenda is adopted. Motion Carried. 3. Adoption of Minutes of previous meeting of February 15, 2005 Moved by Dave Crabb, seconded by Gary Dunlop that the minutes of the previous meeting of February 15th, 2005 are adopted as presented. Motion carried. 4. Treasurer's Report Bill Russell reported Chequing Account Balance as of January 15th, 2005 was $1335.75 Superior Savings Account balance $2051.71 Payment from Sunrise Beach$ 30.00 Paid re Lake Winnipeg Consortium$ 200.00 Total balance as of March 15, 2005 report $3217.46 In addition to the above balance Bill advised payment received from Still Cove ( 68 members) Bill moved adoption of the report, seconded by Gary Dunlop. Carried. 5. Correspondence sent (a) Letter sent to Minister Ashton (b) Letter to Gordon Jones reviewed. Minor changes/additions suggested. It was also suggested that MACO contact additional corporate sponsors (Tembeck, DF0, Hydro, Minister Ashton, Wolseley Mechanical) for funding. 6.Correspondence received (a) Manitoba Real Estate Board Petition Doug to contact them and advise that the wording in the petition requires change for MACO support as well as there should be a name for this group. 6. Old Business b) Workshop/seminar planning Doug Neal advised that the hotel as well as other places checked are booked for the proposed September date. Shirley Nixon moved that the date for the seminar be moved to April 2006 and that a check be made for any conflicting events. Seconded by Gary Dunlop. Motion carried. Doug will contact Dr. Lawson to ensure he is available at that time and he will check date with CanadInn. c) Report on education funding (See correspondence sent) d) Planning 2005 AGM It was decided that we should bring ideas for speaker and format for the AGM to the next meeting. e) Lake Winnipeg Consortium Mr. A. Christopherson contacted Doug to thank MACO for the donation. MACO will go on their letterhead and a representative from MACO will be invited to attend their AGM. There is a problem with their vessel at this time but it is hoped that it will be in the water this year and we would be invited on a trip. MACO should receive a letter of thanks soon. 7. New Business (a) Rewording Application for Membership Lorraine Neal moved to change Membership Application by deleting intro, moving footnote to the top and note to advise of executive changes. Seconded by Lindy Clubb. (b) Mr. Fitzmaurice (Manitoba Hydro) advised that there is a large development in the Shellmouth Dam area. The developers wish to promote their development. Doug Neal attended the March 9th meeting with Ken Avery Chair of Grand Beach and Area Development Association; Ed Gunning, Councillor St. Clements and Don Schmidt, Councillor Alexander and Mr. Fitzmaurice, Manitoba Hydro. Hydro will be keeping one person in Grand Marais. 8. Directors Reports Dave Crabb No report. Gary and Pat Dunlop No report. Bill Russell Provided list of associations who have not paid since end of 2003. Bill advised Cottager publication payments are due for MACO executive. Lindy Clubb will follow up with her cottage association regarding submitting payment or will purchase individual membership. Lindy Clubb No report Jim Neufeld Reported on correspondence with Mike Beck in BC re excessive taxation of cottages in BC. 4% land and buildings from $400 - $500 up to $4,000. Most are on crown lands. He met with mid level government in February. Changes will continue. Only alternative may be courts. Coalition and Minister Struthers met on the 28th. Coalition feels this should continue. If changes, changes should be gradual. It is hoped to keep cottage lots within blue-collar worker's ability to buy. Clearwater AGM is first Monday in July. Shirley Nixon Shirley advised that the Canadian Subsidy Directory for 2005 now available. Lorraine and Doug Neal No report 9.
