Box 281, Station Main, Winnipeg, MB, R3G 2G9 As Received Oct 3, 2007 Minutes of Meeting Date: Tuesday, May 15th, 2007 Time: 6:00 PM Location: CanadInns, 2100 McPhillips Street, Winnipeg Present: Dave Crabb, Pat Dunlop, Gary Dunlop, Donna Jean Crabb, Gus Wruck, Bill Russell, Rene Comeault Regrets: Ken Corbett, Jim Neufeld, Marian Jones 1. Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 6:10 p.m. 2. Adoption of Agenda Pat Dunlop moved adoption of the Agenda with additions. Seconded by Bill Russell. Carried. 3. Adoption of the Minutes -Pat Dunlop moved adoption of the Minutes of April 17th, 2007. Seconded by Bill Russell. Gus Wruck suggested that the Minutes contain an action notation at the end of each item. Carried. 4. Financial Report - Gary Dunlop moved adoption of the financial report presented. Seconded by Rene Comeault. Carried. Non-profit status. Gus Wruck asked if corporate annual returns had been filed. They have been filed. With articles of corporation there should be information on whether we have non-profit status. Suggested that financial statement be changed from liability to expenses. Gary to phone to find out if we have non-profit status. 5. Correspondence Received •Emails - Lots have been forwarded to executive through the past months. Mostly thank you from people regarding work on taxes, etc. • RM of Harris and Coldwell acknowledge receipt of letter and refused monetary support. 6. Correspondence Sent • The Cottager article sent for next issue • Reflections Magazine article • Sent 197 letters to Rural Municipalities • Newsletters - Sent 125 sent to Still Cove + 100 to Karen Gelley for delivery to several associations in her area. • Selkirk Journal - 2 articles sent out by-email to MACO email list. 7. Old Business a) Website - Story about MACO sent out. Article for files and copy to Stan. Dave will resend copies to executive. Dave asked Stan for deadline on website. Marion Jones advised that there were questions for Dave re website from someone she knew but Dave hadn't heard. Gus advised -.Donna Warenko, Granite Internet Services estimate. Tag on account $600 /12hr to prepare Register domain name $45/yr. Same as above to develop. Stand alone $1127. It was suggested that we consider getting advertising to help pay for the website. Dave to contact Stan. b) Water Stewardship Fund - No information available. Pat to give Dave address. c) Cheque for $5,000 - Dave to get in touch with Sara Kipp. School Taxes - Extremely busy with issue. Article in today's Free Press and another expected in the Interlake Spectator. There is a town hall meeting in Gimli tonight with Minister Bjornson. Dave had the opportunity to provide a couple of questions. "Let's Pay Fair" signs handed out. Pat to pick up 3. Gus Wruck moved that MACO develop a cheque for $900 for Education Financing Coalition. Seconded by Bill Russell. Carried. • Joanne Skinner - Dave received copies of the correspondence relating to her requests for information from schools, Minister of Education and the Premier. 8. New Business 9. Directors' Reports Rene Comeault - Association newsletter is complete. Donna Jean Crabb - Has been out and cleaned up after the mice. The cottage next door was condemned for mold in 2003. The area is dangerous for children. By-law police have been contacted and will follow up. Bill Russell - AGM this weekend went fairly smoothly. Boat launches going in and bears are out. Gus Wruck - It has not yet been noted that cottagers in provincial parks do not pay school taxes. Another inequity. Lake Winnipeg Research Consortium first AGM to pass by-laws online. Voted - approved. Karen Gelley contacted him and may want him to attend AGM. 15% of land devoted to public reserve (usually unsuited for cottages) Encouraged to form cottage associations and boat launches. (Cost $100/yr) Critical issue is that not all boat launches can handle all sizes of boats. Pat Dunlop - Have received some signed petitions. Have received two or three responses from municipalities. Advised about concern regarding proposed campground development at Sugar Point. Dave Crabb -. Has been busy working on his garage and doing interviews regarding taxes. Looking forward to the long weekend. 10. Date of Next Meeting - June 19 , 2007 11. Meeting Adjourned - Bill Russell moved the meeting be adjourned at 9:11. |
